Gothic Arcana

The new season at CRYPT opens in April, steeped in magical realism. This new season of Gothic Arcana is inspired by gothic fiction and will explore how the biggest monsters in our lives are often our own darkest impulses, yet there is always hope for the future of humanity.

The season continues with Midnight Circle Productions' adaptation of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", translating the story into a timelessly gothic setting. It is closely followed by "Bacchanalia" - a psychedelic 1960s adaptaion of Euripede's work by Sleepwalk Immersive.

More shows will be announced later in the year as CRYPT re-awakens for 2023.

About

Parabolic Theatre has been at the forefront of fringe interactive experiences since 2016.

The work we make is beyond mere immersive spectacle and aims to tackle the social and political upheavals of our time, in creative and historically connected ways.

How would you deal with a large scale invasion, or influence a government in crisis, or approach a derelict ship floating in space?

Parabolic shows are highly interactive and responsive to audiences that choose to participate. We believe that audience agency is at the heart of what makes an experience immersive, and so we always try to offer the freedom to actively explore - interacting with the space, our performers and other audience members. Our audiences will always be given a purpose for being present within the show and have the capacity to influence the narrative and outcomes.

Led by Artistic Director, Owen Kingston, Parabolic welcomes a variety of artistic associates to collaborate on our shows and events, as writers, directors, designers and game masters.

Our work has recently been supported by the ACE/DCMS Culture Recovery Fund. Previous commissions have included Croydon Council, Croydonites Festival, and Aimhigher London.
